Akima Burns caught the creative bug early in life.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Akima’s first fell in love with drawing while attending a graphic communications high school. She still pursues her passion for drawing to this day.

Akima earned her bachelor’s degree in business from Kennesaw State University. Prior to JOYN, Akima served as the Project Coordinator for the undergraduate and graduate programs at Life University. In this role, she oversaw contract management, scheduling, course-building, and planned convocation ceremonies.

Prior to that, Akima proudly worked at St. Joseph’s Children Services, a Brooklyn-based nonprofit organization whose mission was to support foster children and placing them with families.

When asking Akima what heaven on earth looks like, she most likely will say the beaches of Barbados. “The gorgeous clear, blue water and white sandy beaches. Pure heaven.”

In her free time, Akima loves spending time with family and friends, specifically vacationing each year in Destin, FL. Also, Akima enjoys watching Sci-Fi movies with friends. Her absolute favorite comic book character? Tony Stark’s Iron Man.

Also, her sister says that she’s a movie buff and that Akima knows every episode of the Golden Girls just by the episode intro.

Akima first learned of JOYN through the firm’s Seasons of Care Workshop.

“My first introduction to JOYN was Seasons of Care, and I found it insightful. I’ve worked in the mental health field, and I keenly understand that most of our life decisions come from a place of emotion. That’s why I find JOYN’s Behavioral Wealth Management™ so unique – I don’t believe anyone else in Wealth Management understands how important it is as this firm.”
