JOYN Launches First Expert Panel Event on Family Caregiving

By Matthew Geller   |   October 24, 2018

We’ve been there – awake in the middle of the night Googling questions on caregiving, fearful and unsure of what to do next:

“At what point do I help manage my elderly parent’s finances?

“What signs should I be looking for in my parents if I’m worried about dementia?

“I don’t know who to talk to next about housing for my mom. What kind of facilities are out there? How do I choose the right one?

If you’re around 50 with an aging parent, chances are you’re facing or will face these heartbreaking questions and have struggled to find answers. JOYN’s new Conversations on Caregiving Panel Discussion can help.

Your Caregiving Questions. Our Panel of Experts.

When our clients expressed to us their fears and worries around caring for their elderly loved ones – we listened.

For over three years, JOYN has provided hundreds of attendees with tools to help navigate the emotional, financial, and relational challenges of caring for an aging loved one through its Seasons of Care Workshop.

“I have been fortunate to see first-hand the impact that we are having on our clients and caregivers in our community with Seasons. It is rewarding to be able to help on a topic that is relevant, timely and in dire need of being addressed,” said Gary Whitehurst, Executive Vice President at JOYN and Seasons of Care Workshop presenter.

Now, JOYN is going even further, launching the Conversations on Caregiving Panel Discussion to further help our community find tactics and actionable information. Designed for family caregivers either during or beginning their caregiving planning, the panel presentation will feature recognized experts providing clarity on the tough subjects and the unknowns that drive our sense of fear and anxiety in caring for our aging loved ones.

The expert panelists come from a wide array of caregiving sectors, including elder law, geriatric care, real estate, and wealth management fields. Collectively, they have over 97 years of experience in their fields.

“Our flagship Seasons of Care Workshop is an introduction to caregiving with actionable next steps. This panel is an extension of that workshop and we are excited to have these experts take us on a deeper dive into this complicated topic,” said Gary Whitehurst.

Our seasoned panel of experts will cover topics like:

  • Legacy Planning
  • How to navigate the long-term care healthcare system
  • Alternative approaches to end-of-life planning
  • Income Tax Implications on selling or gifting family property

The Conversations on Caregiving Panel Discussion will take place on November 29th from 4-7 p.m. in our 500 Northpark Town Center’s Peachtree Dunwoody Room. There will be a reception after the conversation for the attendees to engage directly with panelists as well.
